Young N Lively Garden Tour to be July 12

Less than a week remains before the 2011 Young N Lively Club Garden Tour.

Beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, those wishing to partake of the tour may purchase their maps (tickets) at St. Boniface Catholic Church (just east of the corner of Highway 14 and Elm Street).

The tour, as is past years, will feature 6 of Elgin’s finest private gardens.

Gardens on this year’s tour will be Jennie Paul and Lindy & David Borer – both in rural Elgin, north of town;  JoAnn & Ron Beckman, Margaret & Karl Hensley, Laura/Phil Kluthe and Betty & Jim Getzfred – all within the city limits.

Every other year, the Young N Lively group plays host to these tours for people to enjoy the plantings and designs of gardens and/or to get ideas for their own residential gardens.

A guest host from the Young N Lively will be at each site to guide visitors.

Most host gardeners will also be available to answer questions about the different plantings and share some history of their gardens when asked.

Tickets (maps) are $8 per person. The funds from these tours are used for the Young N Lively Park Fund. Park Fund monies are used for landscape projects at both Elgin City Park and Centennial Park (located near the Elgin Library).

Funds are also used to help purchase new park equipment in conjunction with funds from the City of Elgin. Members from the Young N Lively Club also volunteer man hours for park cleanup and many landscaping projects.
