Elgin Public-Pope John will be represented by two veterans of the state wrestling tournament when the 2016 state championships begin Thursday afternoon.
Seniors Ryan Pelster and Andrew Fangman will be competing with the best from across the state in Class D.
This past weekend, Pelster qualified for state by winning the 145-pound weight class while Fangman earned a trip to Omaha by placing second at 170 pounds at the district competition held at Elkhorn Valley High School.
The 2016 NSAA State Wrestling Championships get underway Thursday, Feb. 18, at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha.
Class D competition will begin at 4 p.m. that day with first round/quarterfinals.
Pelster will open the state tournament with a match against Marshal Holtzclaw of Thayer Central. A junior, Holtzclaw comes to Omaha with a 26-16 record.
Fangman will face Kyle Stevens of High Plains Community in a first round matchup. Stevens enters the state tournament with a 43-9 record.
