Wolfpack Volleyball Team Wins SubDistrict; District Final Is Friday Night

O’NEILL — Elgin Public-Pope John is just one step away from a trip to the C-2 State Volleyball Tournament.
That will be decided on Friday night when the Wolfpack face Crofton in the C2-5 District Finals at Norfolk High School. Game time will be 7 p.m.
On Monday night, the Wolfpack (12-16) won the C2-10 Sub-District Tournament, defeating Neligh-Oakdale in the first match, then winning a five-game thriller over Atkinson West Holt in the finals.
The championship match is one Wolfpack fans won’t soon forget. EPPJ rallied from a two games to one deficit to extend their season.
In Game One, the Wolfpack seized the early momentum, building a 15 to 10 lead as Liz Selting recorded four kills to compliment Madi Voborny and Jenna Parks who were also having success at the net.
The Huskies had no answer for the Wolfpack’s attack as Corin Pelster joined in the hitting parade. Back-to-back kills by Pelster gave the Wolfpack a 21 to 13 advantage. The teams traded points the rest of the first game.
Then momentum switched to West Holt. They won Game Two, in large part, due to the net play of Kassidy Jelinek. The sophomore had three kills in the game, then finished it off with an ace serve.
