Wolfpack Volleyball Team Tops Cougars

NIOBRARA — After dropping the first game, Elgin Public-Pope John responded by winning the final three games to defeat Niobrara-Verdigre in girls volleyball action Thursday night.
The Wolfpack came up three points short in Game One, losing 25 to 22. They then responded with some of their best volleyball of the season in winning the next three games by the scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-20.
Freshman outside hitter Liz Selting had one of her best matches of the year as she led hitters with 14 kills, Corin Pelster had nine and Jenna Parks added eight. As a team, the Wolfpack had 41 kills in the match.
Parks and Baylee Wemhoff each had 16 set assists in the match, Taylor Schumacher and Nikki Beckman each had three.
The Wolfpack produced seven ace serves in the match, led by Parks and Selting with two apiece and one each from Mallory Fangman, Beckman and Wemhoff.
Beckman was one of four Wolfpack players in double figures in serve receive as she had 17, Schumacher had 14 followed by Fangman 12 and Selting 10.
Fangman led the team in digs with 23 followed by Schumacher with 10.
The Wolfpack had five ace blocks in the match, led by Parks with two and one each from Madi Voborny, Terri Seier and Pelster.
