For the girls on the Elgin Public-Pope John volleyball team, the season starts Thursday. When it will end is entirely up to them.
The Wolfpack volleyball team was hit hard by graduation, losing three starters on a team which finished 11-17. Returning starters are Chelsi Mescher (outside hitter/setter), middle hitter Marin Heithoff and middle blocker Stephanie Bode. Also back is letterwinner Courtney Schumacher who was a defensive specialist last year.
Coach Tina Thiele-Blecher, entering her third season at the helm of the Wolfpack, said last week there is plenty of work to be done and the girls have practiced well heading into the season opener Thursday night at Stuart.
