Wolfpack to Play for State Title Monday

It all comes down to one game, four quarters of football, to decide who the best team in Class D-1.
The Elgin Public-Pope John Wolfpack, riding a 25-game winning streak, will return to Memorial Stadium in Lincoln Monday afternoon to defend their state title. They will be facing a team who has never been to the championship game. Exeter-Milligan rallied from two scores down in the fourth quarter to defeat Bruning-Davenport-Shickley (BDS) 24 to 20 Monday night.
The Timberwolves (12-0) are coached by Dean Filipi. In his eight years of coaching he has compiled a 57-25 record. This year’s team has been impressive, averaging 48 points per game on offense while allowing just 16 points per game on defense.
Yet, Exeter-Milligan will be hard-pressed to stop the Wolfpack’s running game. EPPJ has scored 624 points over the course of 12 games, an average of 52 per contest.
Experience could be a key factor in the game as the Timberwolves have never played at Memorial Stadium in a championship game. The Wolfpack have that advantage, having won the state title last year with a 44 to 14 victory over West Point GACC
Kickoff for the game will be at 2:45 p.m. Monday afternoon. All championship games will be televised on the NET1 Network.
