Wolfpack Roll Past Leigh

ELGIN — The Elgin Public-Pope John Wolfpack made it two victories in a row Tuesday night with a convincing 49 to 35 victory over Leigh.

In gaining their third victory of the season, the Wolfpack put together a dominating first half.

Senior Tyler Johnson had a huge night for the Wolfpack with 17 points. He was instrumental in the first half when EPPJ outscored Leigh 27 to 12 in the first half.

Leigh was victimized by turnovers as the Wolfpack’s pressure again and again turned turnovers into points.

With a 15-point lead to start the second half, EPPJ never allowed Leigh to make a run to get back into the game.

“We played three very good quarters of basketball,” Coach Tory Gilson said. “When we move the ball around and play team basketball, we get the job done. Tyler Johnson had an outstanding game and was a good leader on the floor. Jeff Starman is quietly getting his confidence back on the court and starting to come on.”

Senior Jeff Starman tossed in 11 points and had five blocked shots in the game.

Eric Vanis had a big game with eight points to provide the Wolfpack with another scoring threat for defenses to stop.

The loss dropped Leigh’s record to 4-4.
