Wolfpack Pep Rally to be Held Sunday

Elgin Public-Pope John played their own version of ‘Monday Night Football,’ earning a trip to the Class D-1 State Championship game.

The Wolfpack (12-0) earned the right to play for the championship by defeating Kenesaw 40 to 26 in the semi-final round on the Blue Devils’ home field.

Parents and supporters of the Wolfpack are encouraged to attend a pep rally which will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the EHS gymnasium.

The team will be leaving for Lincoln following the pep rally.

This will mark the first trip to the state finals for the Elgin Public-Pope John sports co-op.

In 2007, Elgin Public (led by Coach Carlie Wells) in Class D-2 and Pope John in Class D-1 both went to the finals.

Their opponent in the championship game will be Guardian Angels CC (West Point) who defeated Creighton 34 to 28.

The Guardian Angels brings an 11-1 record into the game, their only loss to D-2 powerhouse Howells 8 to 0 to open the season.

The game will be played at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln on Monday, Nov. 21. Kickoff is set for 10:15 a.m.

There will be no school at Elgin Public, St. Boniface Elementary or Pope John XXIII Junior-Senior High School on that day.

Lynne Heithoff is putting together a bus trip for fans wanting to go to Monday’s championship game.

Persons interested should contact her at (402) 843-2129 or (402) 843-8802.

Don’t miss a play as each of the state championship game as it will be broadcast live on the “NSAA State High School Football Championships” airing Monday, Nov. 21, on NET1 and NET-HD.
