STANTON — Elgin’s “fantastic four” wrestling team all brought home medals from the Stanton Invitational held Saturday.
Andrew Fangman, Ryan Pelster and Logan Henn each brought home third place medals and teammate Geoffrey Carr added a fifth place medal from the meet which featured some of the best wrestlers in the area.
Wrestling at 152 pounds, Fangman’s best performance came in the consolation semi-finals when he won by major decision (12 to four) over Peter Gubbels of Plainview. In the third place match, Fangman won by forfeit. So far this season, Fangman has a 9-1 record.
Pelster is quickly regaining the form that earned him a berth in the state wrestling tournament two years ago. He won four matches to boost his season record to 8-2. Like Fangman, in the third place match Pelster won by forfeit. He finished with three pins at the tournament.
