Wolfpack Easily Defeat Lady Eagles

ELGIN — The Wolfpack held Ewing scoreless for nearly four minutes to start the game and went on to defeat the Lady Tigers 42 to 27 in girls basketball action Friday night.
Wolfpack defense and cold shooting on the part of the Lady Tigers allowed EPPJ to gain the upper hand. So clear was EPPJ’s domination in the game that they never trailed in the game.
The Wolfpack built a 25 to 16 lead in the first half. Junior Jenna Parks led the way scoring wise, finishing with a game-high 21 points. During one stretch in the second quarter, Parks scored eight straight points including back-to-back treys. Hayley Stamp’s putback with 1:20 left finished off first half scoring for the Wolfpack.
Having a commanding lead to start the second half, the Wolfpack played a sluggish third quarter. They managed just seven points against the Lady Tigers’ defense. Liz Selting and Jordan Mescher had baskets during the quarter as did Parks.
In the fourth quarter, Jill Schindler got things started, getting open inside for two points. Parks then connected on a trey and added two free throws as the Wolfpack lead grew to 38 to 24 with 2:11 left in the game. Baylee Wemhoff led the march to the free throw line, making two of the Wolfpack’s four made free throws in the final 1:16 of the game.
The Wolfpack made 19 of 52 shots from the field and eight of 17 free throws.
Parks led the Wolfpack with 21 points, Schindler and Wemhoff each had six in the game.
The victory boosted the Wolfpack’s record to 12-4. The loss dropped the Lady Tigers’ record to 8-6.
