Wolfpack Defeat Leigh Girls

ELGIN — Three Wolfpack players were in double figures in rebounds Tuesday night as Elgin Public-Pope John defeated Leigh 52 to 33.

A close game at halftime, the Wolfpack took control in the second half by outscoring Leigh 27 to 14 to claim the victory. “The girls got off to a slow start but did an excellent job hitting the boards,” Coach Randy Eisenhauer said. “Having 28 offensive rebounds is great, but we we need to do a better job of finishing.”

Leigh kept the game close in the early going, trailing by just six points, 25 to 19, at halftime.

The Wolfpack came out in the second half and used a trapping defense to force turnovers. Leigh managed just six points in the third quarter and only eight in the fourth quarter, not nearly enough to keep up with the Wolfpack on this night.

Stephanie Bode and Chelsi Mescher each finished with double-doubles in the game. Stephanie Bode had a team-high 19 points to go along with 12 rebounds, Mescher had 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Senior Lauren Selting tossed in 11 points, making a team-high three three-pointers. Ashley Bode pulled down 11 rebounds in the game. The Wolfpack held a decisive 44 to 23 edge in rebounds in the game.
