Wolfpack Basketball Final Stats Released

The Elgin Public-Pope John boys basketball wrapped up an exciting year, finishing with an 11-11 record under first-year coach Scott Becker.
This year’s team featured an up-tempo game, pressuring the ball on defense and, when on offense, seeking the quick basket.
At one point during the season, the Wolfpack had an 11-8 record before dropping their final three games of the season. Their best game, arguably, was one they lost when they took state tourney-bound O’Neill St. Mary’s into overtime before falling 58 to 55 in the NVC Basketball Tournament.
Senior Nick Heithoff led the team in points scored with 177, followed closely by Trent Hoefer (164) and Ross Schindler (157) who did not play the last couple of games due to injury.
Heithoff led the team in 3-point baskets, connecting on 30 of 92. Also, he led the team in free throw percentage, making 25 of 37. Heithoff was also the team leader in assists with 36.
Schindler, from his guard position, led the team in steals with 40, two more than Andrew Heithoff who was second with 38.
Senior Zach Polk led the team in rebounds with 110 and in blocked shots with 41.
