Who Says Nothing Happens In Elgin? The Year In Review — January to June

Wind turbines, Q125, school personnel changes. These are some of the items which made news during the first half of 2013. For a look back on the things which made headlines, here’s the first installment (January through June) in the 2013 Year in Review. (July through December will be featured next week.)
January
The Antelope County Board of Supervisors cleared the way for construction of more than 100 wind turbines south of Elgin.
EPS Students scheduled to sing in the UNK Honor Choirs on Jan. 28 were Kao Takaya, Sharla Schindler, Hayley Stamp, Madison Voborny, Ashlyn DeWald and Zach Polk.
Recognized at the EVFD annual banquet for years of service were Tony Levander, Chad Martinsen and Dan Zwingman, five years; Dave Schrage, 15 years; Alan Reicks, 25 years; Duane Miller and Tom Reilly, 35 years. Recognized for perfect attendance were Bill Alderson, Denis Henn, Greg Henn, Jim Kittelson and Dave Schrage.
Elgin Public-Pope John Football Coach Carlie Wells was chosen to be an assistant coach on the “White” team when the first Northeast Nebraska All-Star Football Classic was played on June 8, 2013 at Norfolk’s Veteran’s Memorial Park.
