Wheeler County Fair Now Underway

Some of the best cowboys and cowgirls from across the nation will be competing this weekend at the Wheeler County Fair Rodeo in Bartlett.

The 86th annual Wheeler County Fair will be held Thursday through Sunday, August 4-7, at the fairgrounds on the north edge of Bartlett.

Activities get underway Thursday with the 4-H Horse Show starting at 9 a.m. the G-L-W 4-H Roping & Working Ranch horse show will start at 2 p.m.

On Friday, the 4-H Small Animal Show will begin at 9 a.m. at the fairgrounds. The fireman and EMT barbecue will begin at 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds. Free will donations will be accepted at the barbecue. Wheeler County Resident Team Roping will start in the arena at 7 p.m. Top header and heeler buckles are being sponsored by Wagonhammer Ranches & Pritchett Twine & Netwrap.

The 4-H Livestock Show will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

The second annual Wheeler County Steak Cook-Off will be held at the fairgrounds from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. Advance tickets are $8, $10 at the door the day of the event. Tickets may be purchased at Bartlett, Ericson and Elgin businesses or from fair board members. To enter the contest, contact Helen Hall at (308) 654-3220.

There will be free admission to the MSRA/NSRA Rodeo which will get underway at 8 p.m.

Sunday activities will get underway at 8 a.m. with the MSRA/NSRA Rodeo Slack which is free to the public.

The 4-H Livestock Premium Auction will begin at noon. Also starting at noon will be the Wheeler County Ag Society BBQ. Free will donations will be accepted at the barbecue. It will run from noon to 2 p.m.

There will be free admission to the Sunday afternoon performance of the rodeo which will get underway at 2 p.m. The last event of the fair will be the Ranch Rodeo Calcutta followed by the ranch rodeo.

Free rides and entertainment for all ages will be offered Friday through Sunday.
