Wells Named Assistant Coach for All-Star Classic

There will be a familiar face on the sidelines when the first Northeast Nebraska All-Star Football Classic, is played on June 8, 2013 at Norfolk’s Veteran’s Memorial Park.
Elgin Public-Pope John Football Coach Carlie Wells has been chosen to be an assistant coach on the ‘White’ team.
Retired National Hall of Fame football coach Bob Schnitzler of Battle Creek will coach the White team and long-time Northeast Nebraska area football coach Rich Rethwisch of Wayne will coach the Red team.
“We are truly humbled to have Bob and Rich represent the All-Star Classic Red and White teams for our inaugural game,’’ Fuehrer said.  “Both of these coaches have spent lifetimes mentoring football players and are champions all of us can be proud of,’’ said Mike Fuehrer, Sports Development Manager for the Norfolk Area Sports Council
Fuehrer said, in addition to Wells, other ‘White’ team assistant coaches will be Bill Mimick of Lindsay Holy Family, Joe Anderson of Oakland-Craig, Rod Brummels of Osmond and Steve Porter of Norfolk.
Rethwisch will be assisted by Jeff Jensen of Creighton, Jeff Bellar of Norfolk Catholic, Tim Kassmeier of Norfolk Catholic, Greg Warneke of Pierce and Doug Konopasek of Niobrara/Verdigre.
The Board of Directors voted to name the teams Red and White and broke down the teams from a pool of 59 high school squads representing the greater Northeast Nebraska area.
The Red team will consist of nominated players from the following football teams: Allen, Bloomfield, Boyd County/Lynch  (at Spencer), Creighton, Crofton, Emerson-Hubbard, Hartington, Hartington Cedar Catholic, Homer, Laurel-Concord/Coleridge, Lutheran High Northeast (at Norfolk), Macy, Newcastle, Niobrara/Verdigre, Norfolk Catholic, O’Neill St. Mary’s, Pender, Pierce, Ponca, Randolph, Santee, South Sioux City, Stuart, Wakefield, Walthill, Wayne, Wausa, West Holt (at Atkinson), Winside, Winnebago and Wynot,
The White team will consist of nominated players representing the following football teams: Bancroft-Rosalie, Battle Creek, Boone Central/Newman Grove (at Albion), CWS Chambers/Wheeler Central, Clarkson/Leigh, Clearwater/Orchard, Elgin/Pope John, Elkhorn Valley (at Tilden), Guardian Angels Central Catholic (at West Point), Howells-Dodge, Humphrey, Humphrey St. Francis, Lindsay Holy Family, Logan View (at Hooper), Lyons-Decatur Northeast, Madison, Neligh-Oakdale, Norfolk, Oakland-Craig, O’Neill/Ewing, Osmond, Plainview, Scribner-Snyder, Spalding/Spalding Academy, Stanton, Tekamah-Herman, West Point-Beemer and Wisner-Pilger.
