Volleyball Team Ready For Season to Start

ELGIN — Beginning her second season at the helm of the Wolfpack volleyball team, Coach Tina Thiele-Blecher returns plenty of experience as they hope to improve on last year’s 13-16 record.

The Wolfpack returns loads of talent for Thiele-Blecher and assistants Sandi Henn and Emily Borer to shape into a team to be reckoned with.

Ready for her senior campaign, Lauren Selting led the team in set assists last season with 271. Others returning with starting experience from last year are Ashley Bode, Carey Eischeid, Marin Heithoff, Chelsi Mescher and Brea Schrage. Two other players who gained valuable experience last year and are expected to contribute more this season are Stephanie Bode and Casey Pelster.

Mescher was second on the team one year ago in kills with 117. That’s one area Thiele-Blecher hopes to see improvement this year. “We are really going to focus on getting some kills; not just hitting hard. We need kills,” she said. Heithoff had 89 kills last year and Ashley Bode added 83.

From the service line, Mescher led the team with 33 ace serves, Eischeid and Selting each had 13 and Schrage added 12 last year.
