Veterans Day Program Begins At 9 A.M. Monday

Veterans Day will be observed with a special program Monday morning.
The annual program will be held in the gymnasium at Elgin High School, earlier than usual this year. The program will begin at 9 a.m. due to an NVC Music Contest which EHS and Pope John students will be participating in later in the day.
Third graders from Elgin Public and St. Boniface Elementary schools will be led by members of the Junior Legion Auxiliary in reciting “The Pledge of Allegiance” at the start of the program.
The Elgin Public Band will perform music in honor of the day. High school students Ivy Prater and Lexi Heithoff will give patriotic readings as will Whitney Walker.
Also, a combined choir featuring students from EPS and Pope John will sing a special song in honor of the occasion.
This year the Veterans Day address will be given by Antelope County native John McNally.
McNally is the Deputy Director of the Nebraska Department of Veterans Affairs. The department is tasked with advocating for Nebraska veterans and their dependents. The department administers state benefits, assists in obtaining federal benefits and operates the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance.
