Two-Day Storm Dumps 11 Inches of Snow on Community

As much as 11 inches of snow brought activity in and around Elgin to nearly a standstill earlier this week.

Snow began falling late Saturday night and didn’t stop till late Monday. For most of the duration of the snowstorm, the snow fell lightly. Only when the winds shifted to the northwest and increased to 15 to 20 miles per hour with gusts, did the snow begin to blow and cause drifting.

Elgin Public, Pope John Central Catholic and St. Boniface Schools were closed both Monday and Tuesday due to the snowstorm. Very few cars and trucks could be seen parked up and down Second Street on Monday. Some businesses were closed Monday, others closed early on that day. The Elgin Community Center was closed on Monday as well.
