Tami’s Treasure Chest is Elgin’s Newest Business

Saturday marked the first day of business for Elgin’s newest business — Tami’s Treasure Chest, L.L.C.

Owned by Tami and Jerry Schrage of Raeville, the business is located in the main Blair Motors building right across the street from Dean’s Supermarket.

An R.N., Schrage said she got the idea for the business from driving by and seeing the vacant building and thinking the building needed to house a business. The building had been closed for more than a year since Blair Motors closed.

The name of the business came from her daughter Maddie.

“I always love going to second hand stores,” she said. “I just thought a second-hand consignment store would work there.”

Noting that she’s never owned a business before, she said she will be assisted by several volunteers and some high school girls in getting the business up and going. Also, a number of friends will be purchasing items at auctions to resell at the business.

“So far, we’ve had very positive feedback from the community,” Mrs. Schrage said.
