Taking Control of Diabetes

In November, Antelope Memorial Hospital sponsored “Taking Control of Diabetes” presented by Tim Fisher, of Missouri and a member of the A1C Champion Program. In addition, Gayle Carlson, AMH Lifeline Coordinator, and Barb Tichota, AMH Wellness Director, gave tips for preventing falls and for strength building, respectively. Over 60 area residents from surrounding communities attended the free presentations. The attendees enjoyed free snacks, door prizes and a mini-health fair with representatives from Hilltop Drugs, the Willows, Neligh Eye Clinic, Creekwood Chiropractic and the AMH Lifeline, Wellness and Diabetes Education Programs. Money for food expenses was donated by the Neligh Lion Club.

Mr. Fisher shared his personal experiences and challenges of having diabetes. He offered tips for maintaining a relatively normal lifestyle while enjoying good health. He stressed the importance of taking care of oneself and closely monitoring one’s blood glucose levels throughout the day.
