Supervisors Seeking More Information About Possible New County Jail

Another step has been taken by the Antelope County Board of Supervisors towards determining whether or not to move forward with a new county jail.

Meeting on Tuesday, June 14, the supervisors have asked Prochaska and Associates to attend the board’s July 5 meeting. At that time, they will provide supervisors with information as to the size and cost of a new county jail should a decision be made to go in that direction.

Antelope County Sheriff Bob Moore told the supervisors that the eight beds in the current jail have been full, forcing him to take prisoners to other area jails to be held.

Also during the meeting, supervisors decided to increase funding for the county’s libraries. Libraries in Elgin, Neligh, Tilden, Oakdale, Orchard, Brunswick and Clearwater will receive an increase in funding by $250 per library. It will mark the first funding increase from Antelope County dating back to 2006.
