State Antique Tractor & Horse Plowing Bee This Weekend

Thirty years in the making, this year’s Nebraska State Antique Tractor & Horse Plowing Bee and Rae Valley Old Thresher’s Reunion at Petersburg promises to be one of the best ever.
Three days of activities are scheduled for the event which has come to be one of the most anticipated celebrations every year.
Activities will begin Friday evening, Aug. 24 with a tractor cade which will begin at Creston and conclude on Petersburg’s Main Street. That evening, an Open Music Jam will be held in the barn.
Saturday activities will include a consignment auction at 9 a.m., working events & plowing starting at 11 a.m., tractor games & a good old time antique tractor pull will start at noon. Afternoon activities will include the ‘Parade of Power’ at 4 p.m.. The steam engine spark show will begin at dusk.
The Knights of Columbus will hold their annual steak fry from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.. The open music jam & barn dance will run from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
On Sunday, there will be a 10 a.m. church service (in the barn). Starting at 10:30 a.m., there will be an antique tractor balance contest, more tractor games and working events at 11 a.m., horse & mule plowing will kick off afternoon activities at 12:30 p.m.
One of the highlights for children attending will be the kids pedal tractor pull at 1 p.m. Also at that time there will be antique tractor plowing.
Daily attractions will include a working blacksmith, steam engines/gas engines, shingle mill/saw mill, antique tractors and horse-powered machinery. A flea market will be held both days.
Admission is $5 per day. Children 10 & under receive free admission. All events will be held rain or shine.The celebration is put on by the Rae Valley Heritage Association, Inc. Come out and see how farming used to be!
