St. Mary’s Uses Late Run to Defeat Wolfpack

ELGIN — Up by seven points midway through the third quarter, the Wolfpack let the lead slip away as O’Neill St. Mary’s rallied to claim a 67 to 54 victory Friday night.
The Cardinals outscored the Wolfpack 17 to 0 over a three-minute span late in the third quarter, going from down by seven points to ahead by 10, 52 to 42. Cards’ point guard Ty Eiler tossed in two treys in the run and Adam Moon had eight points to spark the run.
The Wolfpack did not go quietly. They fought back behind baskets from Kyle Heithoff and Jake Eischeid at the end of the quarter to cut St. Mary’s lead to six points, 52 to 46.
EPPJ fans were as loud as they have been all season, encouraging the home team in the fourth quarter. Each time they would cut the lead to six points, St. Mary’s would answer back.
