Wolfpack Volleyball Final Season Stats Released

ELGIN — Elgin Public-Pope John volleyball players saw the 2013 season as one whereby they improved game by game, coming up just one match short of qualifying for the State Volleyball Tournament.
While there were seniors to provide leadership, a number of younger players saw plenty of action at the varsity level, gaining valuable experience which should bode well for the years ahead.
Coach Tina Thiele-Blecher’s team posted a 12-17 record during the season, playing their best volleyball of the season when it mattered most — in the postseason. The team won the C2-10 sub-district, defeating Neligh-Oakdale and Atkinson West Holt to reach the district finals. There, they faced Crofton who defeated the Wolfpack in three games. A review of the final season statistics show a number of players made large contributions.
The Wolfpack had 113 ace serves in the match, led by freshman Liz Selting with 36 and sophomore Jenna Parks with 30. Of the players who had 200 or more serves, Nikki Beckman led the team in serve percentage at 97 percent.
Freshman Baylee Wemhoff led the team in set assists with 185, Parks had 168. The team recorded 500 set assists during the season.
During the season the Wolfpack had 603 kills. Three players recorded 100 or more kills, led by Parks with 160, Selting had 139 and senior Corin Pelster added 117.
