Wolfpack Repeat as State D-1 Football Champs!

LINCOLN — Trailing at halftime, the Wolfpack rallied in the second half to claim a 40 to 14 victory over Exeter-Milligan in the championship game of the Class D-1 State Playoffs.
Trailing 14 to 8 at halftime, the Wolfpack followed their coach’s simple instructions at halftime. “I told them to take a deep breath and relax. They (the Timberwolves) had stopped us only once and we gave them the ball twice on fumbles. Just relax and execute and you’ll be fine,” Coach Carlie Wells said.
The defense came out strong to start the third quarter, forcing the Wolves to punt. EPPJ took control of the game. Just as they have done all season, the Wolfpack pounded the ball with bruising runs. Tailback Austin Heying gained seven, then quarterback Ross Schindler picked up 22 on a keeper. Fullback Blake Anderson gained the final 14 yards on two plays, covering the final nine yards for the go-ahead touchdown. Schindler’s two-point conversion made the score 16 to 14.
