Wolfpack ‘Fly’ Past St. Mary’s 42 to 6

O’NEILL — Saint Mary’s had the size, but the Wolfpack had everything else Wednesday night as they claimed a 42 to 6 victory over the Cardinals in the second round of the D-1 State Football Playoffs.
Almost everything the Wolfpack tried worked against the Cardinals because, in large part, it had to. The Wolfpack entered the game without fullback Blake Anderson who was nursing an ankle injury sustained against Franklin and did not see action. So, Coach Carlie Wells inserted Andrew Heithoff into the fullback position and, where Anderson would line up on defense, Blake Schrage took over. The result? The Wolfpack scored the first 42 points of the game and didn’t let the Cardinals score until the last minute of the game.
That’s not to say the game wasn’t physical. Saint Mary’s put up a good fight, the hitting was crisp on a picture-perfect night for football — no breeze and temperatures in the 50s at the start of the game.
