Wolfpack Cap Regular Season With Victory At Burwell

BURWELL — It’s as simple as one-two-three.
Elgin Public-Pope John defeated host Burwell Tuesday night, sweeping three games by the scores of 25-18, 26-24 and 25-18.
“We had to fight through a tough, scrappy Burwell team,” Coach Tina Thiele-Blecher said about the match.
“It seems like we got up each set and Burwell would crawl their way back to a close game. We knew going in, Burwell was a better team than the record showed.
“It was a great win to end our regular season with.”
Wolfpack hitters combined for 46 kills in the match.
Three hitters were in double figures with kills, led by senior Amy Nelson with 13 kills, Paige Meis and Elizabeth Selting with 11 apiece.
Others with kills were Grace Henn with eight, Nicki Payne had two and Baylee Wemhoff posted one.
As a team the Wolfpack attacked the net 125 times with just 27 errors.
Three games produced eight ace serves by the Wolfpack. Baylee Wemhoff had three, Calli Krebs had two while Jordan Mescher, Allyson Wemhoff and Selting each had one.
The team was 73 of 76 from the service line (96 percent).
Recording solo blocks in the match were Meis, Payne and Anna Heilhecker, each with one.
The Wolfpack were 85 of 110 in digs.
Leading the way was Mescher with 28 digs, Krebs had 14 and Selting was credited with 13 digs.
Baylee Wemhoff led the team with 20 set assists, Ally Wemhoff had 15 and Payne added five.
Another key stat was serve receive where the Wolfpack was 51 of 52.
Mescher led the way with 22, Krebs had 12 and Selting added eight.
The win boosted the Wolfpack’s record to 24-1. The loss dropped Burwell’s record to 10-16.
