Scrappy Wolfpack Volleyball Team Ready For Season

ELGIN — Finishing with a winning record last season, the Wolfpack volleyball team wants to improve on that mark this season.
Beginning her fourth season at the helm of the Wolfpack volleyball program, Tina Thiele-Blecher has a nucleus of players capable of making EPPJ a team which could make a run in the postseason.
“We’ve got girls that want to hit the ball hard,” she said last week. “We’re just working on consistency.”
She said a strength of this year’s team is that the girls “have great attitudes and work ethics and they are girls that are going to give 110 percent.”
Returning starters from last year’s 13-12 team are Stephanie Bode, Jenna Parks, Mallory Fangman and Madi Voborny. Fangman had 17 ace serves last season and was fourth on the team in digs with 95. As a freshman last season, Parks led the team in set assists with 302 and was fourth in kills with 70. Voborny recorded 42 kills at the net. Those numbers are all likely to rise this season, but Thiele-Blecher was quick to point out that their positions may change. She said Bode is injured and her availability during the season is up in the air.
The other returning letter winner is Corin Pelster. Pelster saw limited action last year, yet produced three kills and three ace tips.
