Polk Sets New Records at Wagner Invite

WAGNER, S.D. — It’s rare for the Wolfpack to compete in South Dakota, but that’s what the track team did Thursday as they were one of 11 teams to take part in the Wagner Invitational.
Coach Carlie Wells’ track team, having had several meets canceled due to bad weather, took the Wolfpack to Wagner to gain some experience before the district meet which will be held Thursday, May 9, at West Holt High School.
In the boys competition, two Wolfpack athletes turned in gold medal efforts. Senior Zach Polk won the triple jump with a leap of 40-7.25. He set new Wolfpack marks in the high jump and discus, placing second in those events.
Junior Alex Pelster won the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.04 seconds.
The Wolfpack tallied 46 points to finish sixth out of 11 teams at the meet. Scoring 96 points to win the meet was Ethan-Parkston.
Other high schools competing were Bon Homme, Clark Willow Lake, Dakota Christian, MVP, Sunshine Bible, Tea, Platte-Geddes and West Central.
In the girls competition, Madison Voborny turned in the top effort among EPPJ athletes, placing fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.87 seconds.
The girls team scored 11 points to finish ninth out of 11 teams. Winning the girls team title was West Central with 142 points.
