Mustangs Stampede Past Wolfpack

NORFOLK — Cody Carlson scored 14 points in the first half to help give Stanton to a lead they would not relinquish as they ousted Elgin Public-Pope John 55 to 38 Tuesday night. It was a sudden end to the season for the Wolfpack who, in their first postseason game, just couldn’t keep pace with the Mustangs who came into the game on a three-game winning streak.
Nearly everything the Mustangs did in the first quarter worked and, conversely, nothing seemed to go right for the Wolfpack. Stanton scored the first eight points of the game. The Wolfpack’s first basket came when senior Zach Polk drove the lane and dunked the ball at the five-minute mark. Wolfpack fans roared their approval, but nothing seemed to faze Stanton.
