EPPJ Posts 56 to 0 Victory over Cougars

ELGIN — Playing their last regular season home game at Elgin Field, Wolfpack seniors made it a night to remember as they defeated Niobrara-Verdigre 56 to 0.

The victory, their fifth of the season, virtually assured them a playoff berth.

Coach Carlie Wells sent the Wolfpack onto the field ready to play once again and it showed early on.

After forcing the Cougars to punt on their opening possession, the Wolfpack started their first offensive possession with all seniors on the field. Alex Dierks, seldom used in the backfield during the season, lit up the scoreboard when, on his second carry, he went 50 yards untouched for the game’s first touchdown.

The score ignited a 28-point first quarter. Nash Schindler scored on a 37-yard run and Nathan Anderson added touchdown runs of seven and 18 yards to make the score 28 to 0 at the end of the first quarter.

From that point on, the outscome of the game was all but decided. The Wolfpack gained 420 yards of total offense, most coming on the ground. Dean Braband added a second quarter touchdown for a 35 to 0 lead.
