Pope John Lady Crusaders

SPALDING — Four Lady Crusaders scored in double figures Tuesday night as Pope John won on the road, 75 to 59 over Spalding/Spalding Academy.

EWING — ‘Sleeping in’ was not an option for the Pope John Lady Crusaders Saturday morning. At 9 a.m. they took the court to face Santee in the opening round of the NVC Girls Basketball Tournament.

By the time the game was over, Pope John outscored their opponent 77 to 38.

ELGIN — Wheeler Central gave the Lady Crusaders all they wanted before Pope John broke open a close game in the second half for a 65 to 47 victory.

 

Elgin Lady Eagles

LYNCH — A fourth quarter rally came up three points short for the Lady Eagles on Jan. 20 as they fell to Lynch 42 to 39. 

ELGIN — Lindsay Holy Family held the Lady Eagles to just two points in the first half and went on to defeat Elgin 48 to 16 Tuesday night.

EWING — Tied 8-all after one quarter, Elgin couldn’t keep pace and fell 54 to 36 to Orchard Saturday in the opening round of the NVC Girls Basketball Tournament.

 

Boys Basketball

Elgin Eagles

LYNCH — The Eagles started strong and never faltered as they defeated Lynch 67 to 51 in a game played on Jan. 20.

ELGIN — Paced by three players in double figure scoring, Elgin held off Lindsay Holy Family 56 to 49 on Tuesday night.

EWING — A quick start by the Elgin Eagles proved to be the difference in Saturday night’s 59 to 43 victory over Orchard in the opening round of the NVC Boys Tournament.

ELGIN — Balanced scoring was the key Monday night as Elgin defeated Clearwater 65 to 59 in the second round of the NVC Boys Basketball Tournament.

 

Pope John Crusaders

ELGIN — Outplayed in the first half, Pope John rallied in the second half to defeat Wheeler Central 49 to 42.

SPALDING — Victory slipped through the fingers of the Pope John Crusaders Tuesday night. Leading 26 to 14 at halftime, Pope John came out flat in the second half and lost 44 to 37 to Spalding/Spalding Academy.

EWING — Free throws in the final quarter helped propel Verdigre to a 58 to 48 victory over Pope John in the opening round of the NVC Boys Basketball Tournament.

 

 

Wrestling

PLEASANTON — Elgin wrestlers finished third in the team competition Saturday at the Pleasanton Invitational Wrestling Tournament.

Coach Doug Jones said at the tournament Stamp won his 129th career match, the most ever at Elgin High School.

GREELEY — Capitalizing on six medal performances, the Pope John wrestling team placed second at the Greeley Invitational Friday night.
