‘Souptastic’ Celebration Planned for February

It may have been cold outside, but members of the Elgin Chamber of Commerce/Community Club were ‘warming up’ to a 2011 schedule of activities for the entire community to participate in.

Approximately 25 persons attended the monthly meeting held at the Steel Steed Steakhouse & Saloon.

President Jeremy Young announced the dates for the 2011 annual Vetch Days celebration. A contract with Richard’s Amusements was agreed to so that a carnival would be here for all three days. Vetch Days will be Monday through Wednesday, June 27-29. Other events associated with the celebration will be announced in the coming months.

Another event, only a few weeks away, which the community club will be sponsoring will be a soup supper/variety show. A ‘souptastic’ celebration of culinary delights, the event will be chaired by Donna Mackel, who has chaired up similar events in past years. She will be assisted by Juan Hoefer.

The tentative date for this year’s event will be Saturday night, February 26, at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Several other events will be going on that day, a kid’s wrestling tournament and the Pope John Speech Invitational, but it is hoped that those events will help bring more people to the soup supper.
