Sister Mary Imelda Koch, 86, Liberty, MO, passed away October 13, 2013 at the Dooley Center at Mount St. Scholastica Monastery in Atchison, KS. Funeral Mass was held Thursday, October 17, 2013 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Excelsior Springs, MO. Internment followed in Resurrection Cemetery North, Kansas City, MO. Memorials may be made to the Benedictine Sisters of Kansas City, Inc.

Sister Mary Imelda was born July 26, 1927 in Petersburg, NE. She made her religious profession on April 22, 1945. She received a Bachelor of Science in Education and Master’s Degree in Administration both from Creighton University. She also received a Master’s Degree in Sacred Studies from St. John’s University, in Collegeville, MN
She was a teacher, a formation director, hospital chaplain, and a Prioress for many years. She was one of the original founders of Immacolata Manor, the home of the developmentally disabled women in Liberty, MO and founders of Queen of Angels Monastery, Liberty, MO.
Sister Mary Imelda was awarded the William Yates Medallion from William Jewell College and the Spirit of Kansas City Award for her work in the community. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank J. and Elizabeth Brachle Koch, and 8 siblings.
Sister Mary Imelda leaves her religious Benedictine Sisters of Liberty, MO and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.
