Sidewalk Project Completed at Cemetery

There’s a new look at West Cedar Valley/St. Boniface Cemetery and it’s one many should benefit from for years to come.

The West Cedar Valley Cemetery Association, with the help of major donations from the Richard Kalvelage Trust and the Elgin American Legion Post, created a five-foot wide, 140-foot long sidewalk to make it easier and safer for persons to visit the memorials.

Max Bowman, vice president of the association, said the project is something they’ve been wanting to do for several years. It starts at the top of the hill and goes west to the war monuments. By making the sidewalk five-feet wide, he said it will be easy and safe for persons in wheelchairs and their families to go down to the memorials, particularly during Memorial Day services. “The memorials are now handicap and wheelchair accessible,” he said proudly.
