Second Half Surge Lifts O’Neill Past EPPJ

O’NEILL — Turning in their best performance of the season, the Wolfpack boys basketball team gave O’Neill all they wanted before falling 68 to 47 Saturday night.

Winners of just two games this season, the Wolfpack early on looked like they were ready to claim another victory. In the first two quarters O’Neill couldn’t pull away from the Wolfpack and led by just 31 to 26 at halftime.

The game was decided in the second half. O’Neill outscored the Wolfpack 37 to 21 over the final two quarters to seal the victory.

Coach Mark Schmitt said, “The final score does not tell the story of this game. This was probably our best effort of the year. We still turn the ball over at crucial times and if we can learn to value every possession, we will close the gap on the final score or start to win some of these games. That being said, we did a lot of good things, mainly just competing hard the whole game. I think it was a step forward for us.”
