School Board Planning Summer Maintenance Projects

Let’s just say this — there’s going to be plenty going on at Elgin Public Schools during the summer months.
On Thursday night, the District #18 Board of Education approved getting bids for a number of summer maintenance projects to be completed while school is out.
Steve Heithoff, a member of the buildings and grounds committee, listed a number of projects which need to be done once school is out. Among them are:
• Repair the gym ceiling.
• Address issues with electrical panels in the hallway by the boys restroom in the high school building.
• Redo the women’s restroom in the high school building
• Initiate a window replacement plan
• Extending the retaining wall, sidewalk for the bus loading zone farther north all the way to the end of the block.
Other projects include replacing carpet, and add air conditioning in the copy room in the elementary building, start a sidewalk replacement plan on the northwest corner of the pre-school building, and fix a downspout on the preschool building.
