Ronald J. Johnson, 72 of Elgin, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 16, 2015 at his home west of Elgin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2015 (today) at St. Boniface Church in Elgin, with Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 229 and VFW Post 5816 of Elgin. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.huffmanlevander.com.

Ronald James Johnson, son of Maurice and Claradine (Sehi) Johnson, was born February 14, 1943 at Clearwater, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at Rural St. John’s Church south of Clearwater, attended school at rural District 103 and St. Boniface High School, graduating in 1960. He served in the United States National Guard from 1964-1970.
On February 12, 1966, Ron married Judy Kay Henn at St. John the Baptist Church in Petersburg. They lived in Columbus where Ron worked for Behlen Manufacturing until moving back to Elgin in 1968 and working for Ray’s Mobil and Elgin Lumber. In 1976, they moved 10 miles west of Elgin, where Ron began farming.
Ron was a member of St. Boniface Church. He loved his family and spending time with them. Some of his favorite times were fishing and camping with his family and going to the Pro Bull Riding events.
He is survived by his wife Judy of Elgin; three children: Tracy (Chris) Stamp of Elgin; Teri (William) Mescher of Elgin; Scott Johnson of Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren: Jessica Stamp of Denver, CO; Austin (Mara) Stamp of Norfolk; Hayley Stamp, Chelsi Mescher and Jordan Mescher, all of Elgin; one sister: LaVonne (Barney) Morava of Chappell, NE; one sister-in-law: Evy Johnson of Albion, NE ; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Claradine, and one brother Dennis Johnson.
