Rev. Robert J. Smith died on Monday, July 27, 2015.
Robert Smith was born in a farmhouse north of Elgin, NE on Christmas Day, 1929.
He was ordained a Priest in 1955 and served parishes in Omaha and rural Nebraska. Fr. Smith also served as a missionary in Chile.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Katheryn Smith and four siblings, Parsella Loehr Kelly, Leon Loehr, Floyd Smith and Evelyn Smith Trulock.
He is survived by his sister, Helen Neukirch; numerous nieces and nephews and his brother priests from the Archdiocese of Omaha.
A Wake Service was held on Friday, August 28 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Omaha with Fr. Steve Boes presiding.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, August 29 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Fr. Tom Bauwens furnished the Homily at the Mass.
Interment was held in the St. Boniface Cemetery, Elgin at a quarter mile north of the house where he was born. Fr. Ross Burkhalter presided over the burial ceremony.
