Special Meeting Minutes
The Elgin City Council met for a special meeting on Thursday, March 15, 2012.  Notice of said meeting had been posted at three places, namely, U.S. Post Office, Dean’s Market and the Elgin City Hall, as prescribed by law.
Mayor Schmitt called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. and announced the location of the Open Meeting Act.  Council members present were Shirley Nissen, Kenny Jochum, Don Mackel and Jim Kittelson.
Also present was Dennis Morgan.
It was reported that the Rural Fire Board had approved proceeding with the construction of the new fire storage building and pay for ½ the cost.
The City costs would be approximately $163,000.00.
Also the fire department will be holding a fund raiser to help pay for some of the costs.
After discussing the project a motion was made by Nissen to proceed with the construction.  A second to the motion was made by Jochum.  Voting aye were Nissen, Jochum and Kittelson.  Voting nay was Mackel.  There being three ayes and one nay the motion carried.
The Council will investigate the amount of sales tax money that could be used to offset the cost the fire storage building.
Discussion was held on how to raise extra funds for the water projects discussed in the water study and which projects should be done first.
The Council will keep in contact with Mr. Zwingman regarding the water study and the arsenic levels.
There being no further business to come before the Elgin City Council, Mayor Schmitt declared the meeting adjourned.  The meeting ended at 7:58 p.m.
