SPECIAL MEETING
May 22, 2013

The Elgin City Council met for a special meeting on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the Elgin City Hall. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and take action on the City’s insurance for the 2013-2014 year.
Mayor Schmitt called the meeting to order and announce the location of the Open Meeting Act at 12:00 p.m.
Council members present were Kenny Jochum, Don Mackel and Jim Kittelson. Absent was Shirley Nissen.
Also present was Kathy Volk and Vicki S. Miller.
Mrs. Volk presented the Council a letter written by Jeff Clymer stating the differences between the City’s current insurance carrier, Cornhusker Casualty and Continental Western.
The cost of the Cornhusker Casualty Insurance policy is $16,580.00.
The cost of the Continental Western Insurance policy is $15,181.00.
Following discussion, a motion was made by Jochum to accept the lowest cost policy from Continental Western Insurance. A second to the motion was made by Kittelson. All members voted aye, Nissen absent and the motion carried.
In regard to the new insurance policy, a motion was made by Mackel that due to the fact that the City of Elgin is sponsoring Q125 and Community events, the City Council is creating the Elgin Events Committee. A second to the motion was made by Jochum. All members voted aye, Nissen was absent and the motion carried.
There being no further business to come before the Elgin City Council, Mayor Schmitt declared the special meeting adjourned. The meeting ended at 12:31 p.m.
