December 9, 2015, 7:30 PM
President Steve Heithoff called the regular meeting of the Elgin Public School Board to order at 7:30 p.m.   Board members present were Steve Heithoff, Steve Busteed, Laurie Waterbury, Stan Heithoff, Doug Jones, and Bob Hoefer.  Administrators in attendance were Superintendent Dan Polk and Principal Greg Wemhoff.
President Heithoff led the “Pledge of Allegiance.”  Heithoff reminded everyone that a copy of the Nebraska Open Meetings Law was posted in the meeting room.
School board meeting notice complied with Meeting Notice Policy #204.07.
Laurie Waterbury motioned and Doug Jones second to approve the Consent Agenda: #5- Minutes of Regular Meeting, #6- Adopt the Agenda, #7- Financial Report, #8- Board Bills. Motion carried, vote 6-0.

President Heithoff recognized visitors and asked if the patrons had any comments.  Bruce Clark spoke to the board about getting bus service to the Park Center Day Care.  After discussion, the school board directed Supt. Polk to work up an agreement offering a type of bus service for a fee.
Principal Wemhoff asked Mrs. Rita Heithoff and her art students to show samples of the 3-D Doodler pen projects.  Dylan Widger, Leslie Linares, and Ingvild Bekkeseth showed examples of their work and told of their experiences with the 3-D Doodler pens.  Mr. Eric Heithoff explained the use of Smart Music software with his music students.  Kaitlyn Polk and Baylee Wemhoff played their musical instruments with the software to demonstrate how the software helped them practice with accuracy.
Principal Wemhoff reported on school activities and the state principal’s convention that he had recently attended.  He spoke about the six tenets of AQuESTT.  He will report as more becomes available about the classifications reports.  This will affect the school board goals as the state reporting changes.
Supt. Polk reported on the state legislative issues conference that he had attended.  He stated that there will be a classified staff retirement at the end of the month.  At this time, he is not looking to replace that staff member.
In action items, Stan Heithoff motioned and Bob Hoefer second to renew the second year of the superintendent’s two-year rolling contract.  Vote 6-0, motion carried.  Compensation will be determined at the next month’s meeting.
Stan Heithoff motioned and Laurie Waterbury second that Elgin Public School will fund our ½ for 2 volleyball uniforms in the rotation with the stipulation that no activity group purchase uniforms on their own.  Vote 6-0, motion carried.
Early retirement applications were discussed.  Supt. Polk was directed to reiterate to those eligible that this is an early retirement incentive and should not be expected every year.  Bob Hoefer motioned and Steve Busteed second to allow up to 5 early retirement applications for this school year.  Vote 6-0, motion carried.
Laurie Waterbury and Steve Heithoff reported on the NE State Education Conference that they had attended.
The next regular board meeting will be on January 14, 2016 at 7:30 PM at the EPS Distance Learning Room.
Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Laurie Waterbury and seconded by Steve Busteed.  All voted aye, motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 9:11 p.m.
