Pool Renovation Capital Campaign Underway

“Preserving the Past to Inspire the Future” is the theme for a capital fundraising campaign being initiated by the Elgin Pool Committee to raise the necessary funds to move forward with the renovation of the Elgin Swimming Pool.
The committee, led by Todd Heithoff and Michael Moser, is hoping to build on the momentum created by the recent landslide election which saw Elgin voters overwhelmingly approved the City of Elgin seeking upwards to $500,000 in municipal bonds for the project. That, plus the gift from the Tunink Trust, leaves the committee with approximately one-third of the $1.3 million yet to raise.
Donations, no matter the size, are welcome. Names of persons and/or businesses contributing $1,000 or more will be placed on a “Wall of Honor” to be erected near the bathhouse when the pool is completed.
In addition, the committee will welcome in-kind donations in the form of building materials, printing materials, promotional materials, event space rentals as well as any other related items that can cut costs of the overall project.
Also, there’s a “gift list” which allows for sponsorship opportunities. These include such items as pool depth tiles, a one-meter diving tower, ADA chair, bath windows and so much more. Contact Heithoff, Moser or City Hall to learn more about these opportunities.
Assuming the fundraising campaign is successful, tentative plans call for renovation of the pool to begin upon the conclusion of the 2016 summer pool season with the goal of being completed and open for business in the summer of 2017.
Among the features associated with the pool renovation will be a zero depth entry area, new bathhouse, shade structures, water features, separation wall and a new concrete deck.
