After interviewing two candidates, the District #18 Board of Education has chosen to go with a man who has experience as superintendent to guide the school system in the coming years.
Board President Laurie Waterbury said Monday the school district has offered Daniel Polk a contract to fill the position currently being held by Steve Dennis who will be leaving for another school district at the end of June.
Polk currently serves as superintendent at Silver Lake Public Schools which is made up of Bladen, Roseland and two other communities, he said.
“We’re looking forward to coming to Elgin,” he said in a telephone interview Monday afternoon. Polk and his wife Debra are the parents of four children. Jessica, 22, and Jacob, 19, are in college now. Two other children will attend high school this fall. Zachary, 17, will be a senior. Kaitlyn, 13, will be a freshman at EPS.
