Pope John XXIII Central Catholic eighth grade students Hunter Charf, Kayce Kallhoff, Faith Kinney, and Haley Zegers competed in the Northeastern Chapter contest of the national MATHCOUNTS program recently at Central Community college in Columbus. The contest was organized by the Nebraska society of Professional Engineers to recognize achievement in math skills among junior high and middle schools students. The program consisted of individual, team, and fast-paced written tests. Pope John’s highest scoring student, Faith Kinney, ranked 14th out of 86 students from 11 schools. She was two points short of qualifying for the final competition of the day. The other team members ranked in the top 50%. Teams from Columbus Middle School and North Bend Central placed first and second respectively. They advance to state competition in March.
