Elgin City Crews Cleaning Up After Winter Storm Kayla

The Elgin street crew, along with extra help, has been busy since yesterday (Wednesday) moving piles of snow off city streets. According to one report, between 13 and 15 inches of snow fell. The snow began at approximately 10 pm on Monday, Febr. 1 and didn’t stop until early Wednesday morning, Febr. 3. Along with the snow, gusty winds made for blizzard conditions. As of this writing, all of Elgin streets are passable. Highways 70 and 14 still have patches of snow and ice so drivers – and walkers in town – are reminded to use caution. Also, watch carefully at intersections since views may be blocked due to snow piles.  While temperatures have remained cold, the sun has caused melting both yesterday and today so the night-time freeze will likely cause more areas of ice where the water once stood.
