Paul F. Hoefer, 85 of Elgin, NE passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin with Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating.
Interment followed in the parish cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 229 and VFW Post 5816 of Elgin.
Huffman-Levander Funeral Home of Elgin was in charge of arrangements.

Paul Fred Hoefer, son of Russell Benjamin and Catherine Mary (Kerkman) Hoefer, was born May 13, 1929 at Elgin, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Church in Elgin and graduated Valedictorian of his class from St. Boniface School in 1947. He worked as a carpenter for Hawley Merchant and Grosskoff Construction, helping build the Steeple on the Lutheran church in Elgin. On June 25, 1951, he entered the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict, receiving an honorable discharge on June 24, 1953.
Paul married Charlotte Mae Fritz on July 12, 1954 at St. Boniface Church in Elgin. To this union, seven children were born: Barb, Ron, Bev, Lori, Linda, Brian and Dan.
They made their home in Elgin where Paul worked for Ben Selting for a few years before working with Jerry Tunink for over 50 years, building and remodeling 200 homes in and around Elgin.
After Jerry retired, Paul continued his carpentry work, helping Mike Dvorak, before retiring in 2003.
He was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus for 63 years and a long time member of American Legion Post 229 of Elgin. He was a three time Beard Award winner at Elgin’s 75th, 100th, and 125th celebrations.
Paul loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Charlotte; five children: Ron Hoefer of Lincoln, NE; Bev (Daniel) Martens of Norfolk, NE; Lori (Russ) Rezny of Wilber, NE; Brian (Karalyn) Hoefer of Lincoln; Daniel (Kara) of Swansea, SC; one son-in-law Lee Freeman and wife Patty of Kearney, NE; three sisters: Reggie Smith of Wisconsin; Lois (Bill) Williams of Arizona; Margie Baum of Elgin, NE; one sister-in-law Juan Hoefer of Elgin, NE and one brother-in-law Bob Medcalf of Clearwater, NE; 16 grandchildren: Dustin, Duana, Denise, Scotty, Weston, Ryan, Vanessa, Paula, Laura, Brock, Kessa, McKenna, Kalyssa, Kaitlyn, Loudon, and Paige; 10 great-grandchildren: Shawna, Tyson, Ethan, Kallista, Jackson, Connor, Harper, Liam, Ella and Rory; and two step-great-grandchildren: Bralyn and Diamond; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother Bobbi Clemons Hoefer; two daughters: Barb Freeman in 1998 and Linda Hoefer in infancy; two infant grandchildren: Heather Freeman and Jeremiah Martens; two brothers: John and Leonard Hoefer; one sister: Mary Kay Medcalf; sister-in-law Irma Hoefer and brother-in-law Roman Baum.
