ARTICLE 5 – APPOINTED OFFICIALS
ORDINANCE NO. 1-501
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, NEBRASKA, TO AMEND SECTION 1-501 OF THE OFFICIAL MUNICIPAL CODE TO PROVIDE FOR THE CREATION AND ESTABLISHMENT OF PROCEDURES FOR ELECTION AND APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS; SERVICE AND TERMS OF OFFICE OF ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICERS; TO PROVIDE WHEN THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT; AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE PUBLICATION OF THESE ORDINANCES IN ACCORDANCE WITH STATE LAW.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OFTHE CITY OF ELGIN, NEBRASKA:
Section 1. Mayor.
A. A mayor of a city of the second class shall be elected in the manner provided in the Nebraska Revised Statutes. The mayor shall take office on the date of the first regular meeting of the city council held in December following the statewide general election. The mayor shall be a resident and registered voter of the city. If the president of the council assumes the office of mayor for the unexpired term, there shall be a vacancy on the council which vacancy shall be filled as provided in section 32-568.
B.. The mayor, with the consent of the council, may appoint such officers as shall be required by ordinance or otherwise required by law. Such officers may be removed from office by the mayor. The terms of office for all officers, except regular police officers, shall be such that the officers hold office for one year unless sooner removed. Section 2. Effective Date. These Ordinances shall be in full force and effect from and after their passage, approval and publication as provided by state law.
