Lois Schuchardt

1931 – 2009

Lois Jean Schuchardt was born August 9, 1931, at Pierce to Arthur and Clara (Kuhl) Strelow. She attended school at Pierce and graduated from Pierce High School.

She was married to William R. Schuchardt on January 15, 1952. They made their home in Norfolk for a few years before moving to the Alderson Family farm near Elgin. She was active in Trinity Lutheran Church at Elgin and belonged to the Elgin 12 Family and Community Education Club for 54 years. 

She moved to Neligh in 1982 and transferred her membership to Grace Lutheran Church where she remained active.

Lois worked first for Leon McCoy Insurance and then USDA’s Farm Service Agency, formerly the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. 

She went to work for Farm Credit Services and spent more than 20 years at the Neligh office before her retirement.

She participated in bowling and golf for many years in league competition and was active in the Democratic Party.

She died Sunday, February 22, 2009, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Survivors include a son, Richard (Jane) Schuchardt of Fairfax Station, VA; daughters, Janice Briese of Aurora, CO and Cathy Jo (Tom) Conway of Brighton, CO; sisters, Dolores Kolterman of Pierce, Arlene Riege and Mardell Baumann both of Norfolk, Adeline Schott of Sun City West, AZ and Ethel Alexander of Norfolk; a brother, Harold Strelow of Pierce; four grandchildren, Ryan and Philip Schuchardt and Brandon and Jerod Briese; and two great grandchildren, Wesley and Jaiden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Tom and her sister Elnor Demmel.

Funeral services for Lois Schuchardt, age 77, of Neligh were held Friday, February 27, 2009, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Neligh. Burial was at West Cedar Valley Cemetery in Elgin.

Memorials are suggested to the Grace Lutheran Church in Neligh.

Beyer Funeral Home in Neligh was in charge of services.
