Janet Sutton

1934 – 2009

Janet Irene (Bottolfson) Sutton, 74, of Shelton, NE, died Friday, Feb. 29, 2009, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at Shelton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Greg Reed officiating. 

Burial was held one day later at the Hartington Cemetery.

She was born Nov., 20, 1934, in Wynot to Arthur and Daisy (Mathers) Bottolfson.

On Feb. 23, 1956, she married Dan Sutton in LaVerne, Minn.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Cary and his wife, Lisa of Papillion, Tim and his wife, Sandra, of Wayne and Todd and his wife, Sandy, of Shelton; daughter, Julie Oakeson and her husband, Dave, of Brush, Colo.; grandchildren, Kyle, Bret and Drew Oakeson and Mathew, Allison, Maggie, McKenzie and Kolby Sutton; brother, Arthur; and sisters, Betty Lauer, Deanna Rimel, Nancy Pick and Judy Kvols.

She grew up in Hartington, where she attended Spring Valley grade school and graduated from Hartington High School in 1952. She attended Wayne State Teachers College, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught one year at Midway School south of Hartington and two years at St. James School in St. James.

She and her husband lived in North Hollywood, Calif., while he served in the U.S. Army. They returned to Nebraska where they lived in Lincoln, O’Neill, Valentine, Oakland, Elgin, Tilden and finally Shelton.

She was an active member of Shelton United Methodist Women’s Circle.

She kept up with current events and enjoyed discussing them with friends and family. She loved her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and Nebraska football. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. (source:myclap.com)

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law.

Memorials are suggested to the church.
